This will be our first visit back since our initial series of Adopt-a-Highway cleanups earlier in the Summer. Since we were last out the DOC has been through and bagged more stuff up and I'm sure more has settled into the environment. I'm hoping that the deeper clean we gave it initially has held and this will be more of a maintenance cleanup. That said, you never know till you're out there!
Our stretch of Hwy 99 runs from Holden (Dump exit) all the way down to the pedestrian overpass in South Park (14th Ave S. exit).
What to expect: We'll be cleaning the right southbound shoulder of Way 99 and the on & off ramps. They are currently very messy, even more than what you can see when driving by.
We can only have 6 pre-approved people on the highway at any given time (I have 20 applications to date), this will be an all-hands-on-deck clean and you do not need an application to help out. In our first clean we had 20+ people working on the adjoining roads like a normal group clean and then we'll call in the highway piles to WSDOT, and the surface road piles to Seattle Public Utilities. If you would like to be on the highway and haven't filled out an application just let me know as its a pretty easy operation.
We’ll clean in groups and will be practicing safety first and foremost. Please, please, please, stay safe and let's look out for one another, I want us to have an amazingly safe and injury-free day, this is my number one priority.
Supplies: Vests, gloves, buckets and pickup sticks will be provided. If you have a plastic or flexible metal rake that would be a tool I'd suggest bringing as would loppers for blackberry bushes.
Parking: Take the dump exit off of West Marginal and then a left at the stop sign. This is 5th Ave. S. and we'll park along the fence line on the right side of the street.
Contacts: Please reach out with any questions, concerns or carpooling opportunities. I can be reached at 206-852-9552 or on Messenger. Thanks for your help with this one team!
