Keith and Mary discovered another beached dock down by their place last month. It’s the same type of cement encased styrofoam dock that we demo’d at Weather Watch Park last year, but this one is even larger. It’s lost one side of the cement edging and is releasing styrofoam all over the beach every time it gets into the surf and gets pushed up against logs. Our mission will be to remove the top level of concrete which has rebar and wire mesh running through it so we can start to cut and pry out the styrofoam for removal. Once we get that removed as good as we can we’ll likely just leave the cement wrap on the beach for the waves to break down over time or maybe give it some help with more sledgehammer work. We’ll have some sledgemammers, saws, pry bars and other tools. Feel free to bring your own tools, work gloves and eye protection.
It is a bit harder to get to this location than last year’s project as it’s a little beach walk south from Constellation Park where we can park and walk in. Dress for success as it will remain cold and wet this week. The tide may be somewhat close to the dock when we get there but it will be going back out the whole time we’re working.
