We’ll be doing a collaborative Earth Day cleanup with Pacific Environment supporting their Ports for People initiative to reduce carbon emissions in Port Cities.
Pacific Environment works to protect communities around the Pacific Rim, including in Seattle, WA, where the Port of Seattle creates port and ship pollution that harms human health and the climate. Our Ports for People campaign helps build a cleaner, more sustainable future by engaging port leaders to eliminate fossil fuels from portside communities and advance a clean ocean shipping future instead.
Our cleanup will happen along the outside transit corridor to the Port of Seattle. We’ll send teams down Spokane Street and E. Marginal Way, both of which are heavily traveled port surface streets in a neglected part of town between Downtown Seattle and Georgetown. There will be lots of trash to collect as well as some trimming needs along overgrown bike paths under the West Seattle Bridge. There are a couple tents set up along Spokane Street which we will make outreach to beforehand to see if they are open to some cleanup help, but otherwise there won’t be many folks in this area of town.
Parking & Meet-Up
We’ll park and meet underneath Highway 99 right in front of the ILWU Union Hall at the intersection of Spokane St. & E. Marginal. I’ll have my phone on me if you need to reach out at 206-852-9552 (Erik).
