Pop-up Clean / Rozella Building / White Center

  • Alleyway Dumpsters 9422 Delridge Way SW Seattle, WA, 98106 (map)

This will be a quick morning clean of the alleyway behind the iconic Rozella Building in White Center. The dumpsters in the alley are a weekly problem that I'd like to stay on and turn the tide on over time.

This will be a rolling, weekly clean to highlight the ongoing issues around this building and hopefully to gather data with the city to take action on.

Backstory: I've been trying to find some sort of connection to the spaces we clean to give additional meaning to our efforts. After last week's clean I walked around to the front of the building and was delighted to discover the entry with it's lovely, original entry signage. My mother-in-law's name was Rozella White, the only Rozella I've ever known and she was an amazing lady.

I came home and Monica started doing a little research and also found out that White Center was cofounded by a Mr. White, so caretaking this problem space behind the building now seems like a fun project to do in memory of her. It would be awesome to see this building be restored back to it's original splendor at some point as today it's rather shabby and run down.

Parking: We'll start just south of Fresh Flours Bakery (9410 Delridge Way SW) so park anywhere around that neighborhood and make your way to the alley.

Vests, gloves, buckets, and pickup sticks will be provided and we'll transfer all the trash into Seattle Public Utility bags for pickup.

Come for as little or as much as you’d like as we make this a safer environment for the community.
