We’ll do several Spruced cleanups this week along the West Seattle Grand Parade route for next Saturday’s event. The cleanups will concentrate mostly on foliage but we’ll also pick up trash as we go.
While driving California Ave. this week I’ve noticed many blocks have trees with overgrown suckers growing out of their bases encroaching on the sidewalk or branches hanging down that prevent a good line of sight for parade goers and eat up valuable real estate.
We’ll begin at the starting intersection of California & Lander and proceed south. Depending on the number of volunteers we get we can either focus on one side of the street or send teams up both sides. I’ll better map out which blocks need the most help so we can cover as much ground as possible as some blocks need a lot of help and others look pretty good.
Cut material will be placed into yard waste bags and hauled away.
I’ll have some tools to start with but if you have hand clippers, kneeling pads and hand tools you use at home, those would be good to bring. I’ll bring a hedge trimmer, pole saw, a weed whacker, rakes, a leaf blower, etc.
