This is an encampment I’ve seen spilling out of the woods directly across Delridge from the SW Police Precinct for a number of months. I went and introduced myself to the man living there and told him about what we do and asked if it would be alright to come in with a group and clear the area around him and he said that would be good. I believe there used to be a larger tent presence here and the area he is living in is thick with garbage. I don’t know if he’ll be in a capacity to help and am not planning on that, but I will be checking in and making him aware of where we’ll be and what will be happening. We’ll be tag teaming on some outreach to him as well in the coming weeks independent of the cleanup. In the end I’ll be leaving him one of our trash cans with a lid and liners and see if this would help remedy some of the problem and help pickup every week.
There is also another live encampment right on the corner of Delridge & 21st that has stuff accumulating on the sidewalk. It would be good to grab this and stage it all together for pickup. I can make contact with them as well.
The cleanup will be just off Delridge Way, directly across the street from SW Precinct, from the sidewalk to about 20 yards into the woods.
There are also many opportunities along the neighboring streets and around the Precinct building, Home Depot and Orchard St. for those who are uninterested in the encampment cleanup.
Parking & Meet-Up
There is no parking on Delridge so I’d suggest we park along SW Webster St which is on the south side of the Precinct. We'll likewise need to ferry the collected trash in the wagon to a staging for contractors to pick up. I’ll figure that piece out prior to the cleanup and will have my phone on me if you need to reach out at 206-852-9552.
